Celebrating our school in P3/4

11th Oct 2019

This week, as part of our celebrations topic, we have been researching what life in Toreagh Primary was like in the past. We were extremely lucky to have two fantastic visitors (past pupils of Toreagh) who volunteered to share their own experiences with us.

Firstly, Asia's grandad told us about life in Toreagh 80 years ago. He told us all about his experiences in the old school building called the "Hen house." There were only two classrooms and two teachers back then, Miss Armstrong and Mr Snoddy. He particularly enjoyed the responsibility of being the school librarian and he always behaved very well at school!

Next, Charlie's granny came to tell us about life in the new school building in the 1960's. Coincidentally, we are now in the same classroom that Charlie's granny was in although it has changed over the years! There were no computers, only books, and they used matchsticks to help them to count in tens and units. Charlie's granny enjoyed learning how to knit and sew at school and remembers taking a school trip to Gleno waterfall.

We have absolutely loved listening to all the happy memories of life in Toreagh in the past and we are looking forward to making our own lovely memories at school too.

A very big thank you to our wonderful visitors for helping us to celebrate our school!
